about Murphys Puppets
According
to Dennis, the charm of
Puppet Theatre is in its basic ridiculousness: “The
puppet is not a living creature yet we constantly catch ourselves
believing for a second that the puppet is alive. It’s
so ridiculous that we have to laugh. That’s the universal
humour of Puppetry.”

Through extensive touring and close
observation of people in many lands Dennis has developed a whole
stable of weird and wonderful characters plus countless
puppet acts.
His alter egos have entertained audiences on four
continents with an extensive repertoire of puppetry styles. Whether
he is partnering a pelican in a ventriloquist act or adapting 16th
century Italian puppetry to Australian audiences, Dennis can be
counted on to present a unique blend of humour and puppetry.
As Guest Artist at The Rocks PuppetCottage, he has delighted tens of thousands of
Sydneysiders and overseas tourists. Add to this his exhaustive interstate
tours, and the number of spectators runs to the hundreds of thousands.
Dennis had the unique distinction of taking his Italian-style
puppet shows back to the land of its origin when he was invited to perform
at Europe’s largest International Children's Theatre Festival,
The TEATRI DEL MONDO, in Italy. Commuting regularly
to Europe to perform at puppet festivals gives Dennis the chance
to further his research into the “fairground tradition”
of Puppetry.
